    Biography

     Raymond Russell has been a member of the Department of Sociology at UC Riverside since 1979. His teaching is in the areas of the sociology of organizations, the sociology of work, and sociological theory. His research focuses on the many ways in which workers can participate in the ownership and control of their workplaces. The book Sharing Ownership in the Workplace, published in 1985 by State University of New York Press, dealt with forms of employee ownership that occur in the United States. Utopia in Zion, published by SUNY in 1995, surveyed the history of worker cooperatives in Israel. Since 1996, Russell has been investigating the relationship between work and ownership in the contemporary Russian economy. Articles based on these studies have appeared in such journals and series as Work and Occupations, Industrial Relations, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, and Research in the Sociology of Work
