    Biography

    Alfredo Mirandé was born in Mexico City and came to the United States at age nine. He is a professor of Sociology and Ethnic Studies, and past Chair of Chicano Studies and Social Relations, and current Chair of Ethnic Studies. Mirandé's teaching and scholarly interests are at the intersection of Sociology, Law, and Race and Ethnic Theory. He received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Nebraska and JD from Stanford University, and taught at the Texas Tech University School of Law. He has been a National Research Council Fellow and a Rockefeller Fellow and was in residence at the University of California at Berkeley, and at Stanford University. He is one of the leading Chicano sociologists doing groundbreaking work in Critical Race Theory. His research reflects an ongoing research strategy that seeks to introduce Latino Critical Theory into the broader field of Critical Race Theory.
